How to choose a safe kids camp in Spain
Insurance, staff background checks, monitor ratios and regional rules: a checklist for parents booking a camp in Spain.
Spanish law requires everyone who works with children to hold a certificate showing they have no convictions for sexual offences (Law 26/2015 and the LOPIVI 8/2021). Foreign staff also need a certificate from their own country.
Checklist
- Civil liability and accident insurance — ask for the policy and expiry date
- A signed declaration about staff certificates
- Monitor-to-child ratio (1:8 or better for young children, 1:2–1:5 for water sports)
- Qualified coaches for sport: federation or school accreditation
- Clear rules for allergies, medication and who may pick children up
Regional rules
Camps are regulated by each autonomous community. In Catalonia, Decree 267/2016 sets monitor qualifications, insurance and notification of each activity to the authorities. Ask the organiser for the activity notification number.
What our site does and does not check
The information on each camp page is collected from the organiser’s own public website; you will always see a link to the source and the date it was last checked. We do not check insurance policies, staff certificates or licences, and we are not the organiser: you book and sign the contract directly with them. Before paying, ask the organiser for the documents in the checklist above — a serious camp will send them without hesitation.
